Check out this new wearable home theater

Mass transit commuters, business travelers, gamers—this new wearable home theater may be something for you.

The Avegant Glyph—still in its early days of production—makes for a fully immersive experience by connecting its integrated audio and video headgear via a single cord to your smartphone or video game device.

"There's no screen involved. The image you see is actually projected directly on your retina," Avegant CEO Edward Tang told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Tuesday.

"It's a much more clearer and comfortable image than you normally would see from a screen," he added. "We're actually replicating the way you see."

Competing with Oculus Rift, Google Glass, and other wearable projection-type devices, the Glyph combines a flip-down form factor, sharp imagery and premium noise-canceling audio. It even does 3-D.

Avegant is about two weeks into a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to raise money to bring the device to market. Those who pledge $499 or more will receive a fully functional Beta Glyph Prototype.

The company has raised nearly a million from more than 2,000 backers—far exceeding its fundraising goal of $250,000.

The Glyph was shown at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, winning an Editor's Choice Award.
