What March Madness tickets cost—by region

Now that most everyone's March Madness bracket is busted, or close to it, the focus is on the Sweet 16—the set of teams remaining in the men's NCAA basketball tournament.

They'll play against each other on Thursday and Friday in order to be whittled down to the Elite 8. By Sunday evening, hoops fans will know who makes up the Final Four. Those teams will play Saturday, April 5, to see which two square off for the championship in Arlington, Texas, on Monday, April 7.

So what's it going to cost for a ticket to see any of these games? That depends on the teams and the venues, according to secondary ticket marketplace vendor, Vivid Seats.

One thing's for certain: The overall prices are higher this year than last, according to Vivid Seats. The vendor said prices are up almost 20 percent in 2014 at the East Regional games compared with last year's East Regional.

This year's East Regional games are at Madison Square Garden and include the nearby University of Connecticut, which is generating a lot of fan interest. Teams like the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats will also draw a lot of ticket buyers to their Sweet 16 game in Indianapolis, which is very close in proximity to both schools.

So let's start with the 2014 South Region games in Memphis, Tenn. As you can see in the chart above, they currently have the cheapest walk-in ticket price of any region at $94. That would be for the three games that lead to the Final Four.

The South is the only region that has seen ticket prices drop since the start of the tournament.
