Here are the healthiest counties in America

The results of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's annual County Health Rankings are out, and offer a glimpse at the many ways one can measure health and quality of life.

In 10 maps, the Washington Post illustrates some of the criteria. Who has the cleanest air? Where are obesity rates the lowest? Who has the lowest rates of premature death? Nearly three dozen indicators in all.

Among the findings:

The highest rates of obesity were in the South, while the lowest rates were in the Mountain West region. The exceptions were Marin County, Calif., and Manhattan.

The healthiest air was found mostly in California and southern Oregon, while the least healthiest was in rural Tennessee and Kentucky.
