Industrial output in Japan rose 0.3 percent in March on month, below analyst forecasts in a Reuters poll for a 0.5 percent increase, data on Wednesday showed.

It followed a 2.3 percent fall in production in February.

Manufacturers surveyed by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry expect output to fall 1.4 percent in April but increase 0.1 percent in May, Reuters reported.

The Bank of Japan meets later in the day and is expected to leave its monetary policy unchanged.
