CNBC Meets... Matt Damon

Exclusive Interview to Premiere on 7 May and Air Globally on CNBC

LONDON, 1 May 2014 – In the next episode of CNBC Meets, presenter Tania Bryer conducts a rare, personal interview with Hollywood actor and philanthropist Matt Damon.

The 30 minute interview will premiere in the UK and across Europe on 7th May 2014 at 10.00pm BST and excerpts will be available online at www.cnbcmeets.cnbc.com. The programme will also air on CNBC networks in the United States and Asia Pacific.

In the programme, Damon talks to Tania about stardom, his upbringing and how meeting childhood friend Ben Affleck changed their lives. He tells Tania about the battles they had to overcome to make Good Will Hunting and how he felt winning an Oscar. He also discusses how he copes with fame, his thoughts about playing Jason Bourne and why he chooses to keep his family out of the spotlight. He reveals to Tania his dream role and how he balances being a husband, father of four, actor, writer, producer and humanitarian.

Tania speaks to Damon about his philanthropic work with water.org, which he co-founded with Gary White in 2009, and why it is so important to him. Damon explains to Tania how this non-profit organisation is providing access to safe water and sanitation for communities in Africa, South Asia and Central America with a mission to have clean water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Damon comments in the interview, "Every 20 seconds a child dies because they lack access to clean water and sanitation. Every 20 seconds; it's just absolutely staggering. So I wanted to do something about that, make some kind of contribution."

When discussing fame in the programme, Damon comments, "It kind of happens overnight and you're aware that the world is exactly the same as it was yesterday … It's a very surreal experience because you know intellectually that the world is the same, it's just never ever going to be the same for you."
