WASHINGTON, May 15 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said on Thursday hat the central bank is trying to make financial conditions more accommodative, and that the United States has further to go to achieve a healthy economy.
"We pledge to continue to do our part in promoting the recovery so that you can continue to help America grow and prosper," said Yellen, in prepared remarks at a National Small Business Week event at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Yellen said that the U.S. economy has "come far" since the financial crisis, but added that more progress was needed.
Yellen cited national labor statistics that underscore the role small businesses play in U.S. economic growth. Slightly more than half of the net number of jobs created since employment began growing in 2010 was generated by companies with fewer than 250 employees, she said.
