Exclusive Interview to Premiere in Asia on 7 June
SINGAPORE, 5 June 2014 – In the next episode of CNBC Meets, presenter Tania Bryer travels to Hong Kong to sit down with one of Asia's most successful businesswomen, Sung-Joo Kim, Chief Visionary Officer and Chairperson of luxury fashion brand MCM Holdings AG and Sungjoo Group.
The 30-minute interview will premiere in Asia Pacific on 7 June at 5pm (SIN/HK) and excerpts will be available online at www.cnbcmeets.cnbc.com. The programme will also air on CNBC's network in Europe, Middle East and Africa and on CNBC World in the U.S.
In the programme, Sung-Joo reveals to Tania the challenges of growing up in a male dominated culture in her native South Korea. She tells Tania how she had to overcome both her parent's disapproval to study in the US and being disinherited to realise her dreams of becoming an independent successful businesswoman.
Sung-Joo's inspiring path to success was not without personal and financial hardships and it is this incredible story that she tells to Tania.
On working in a male dominated society in South Korea, Sung-Joo comments, "There were not many women at this level and men were extremely uncomfortable seeing women out there. It's very hard to penetrate that kind of not just a glass ceiling, for me it was like a concrete ceiling."
As well as encouraging young female entrepreneurs, Sung-Joo set up her own Charitable Foundation to benefit the social well being of women around the world. When discussing her foundation, Sung-Joo comments, "We want to encourage women to gain confidence, empower them economically and contribute something back to society."
In this episode, Tania also attends the MCM Charity Gala in Hong Kong where she speaks to actress Cecilia Cheung, Cathy Lee, and the supermodel Jocelyn Luko. The programme also features comments from Prince Albert of Monaco, who talks about the importance of Sung-Joo's philanthropic contribution.
