Midday movers: Lorillard, PetSmart, Walgreen & More

Take a look at some of Thursday's midday movers:

Archer Daniels Midland - The grain processor rose on a Bloomberg report it was near a deal to buy Wild Flowers, a natural flavors and ingredient maker, for roughly $3.4 billion.

ManpowerGroup - The staffing company gained as the nation's employment picture brightened. Rivals Kelly Services, Robert Half International and Korn/Ferry International also advanced.

NQ Mobile - The provider of mobile internet service fell after its independent auditor, PricewaterhouseCoopers, told the company it will need to expand the scope of its 2013 audit.

PetSmart - The retailer moved higher as activist hedge fund Jana Partners disclosed a 9.9 percent stake.

Public Service Enterprise Group - The utility fell as along with others in its sector, including Dominion Resources, Entergy, Duke Energy and Edison International.

Regado Biosciences - The company fell after saying it would halt a study of its experimental heart drug.

Reynolds American - The cigarette maker and rival Lorillard gained as CNBC's David Faber reported the merger between the two is back on track, with a deal likely within weeks.

Spectrum Pharmaceuticals - The company climbed after the FDA granted accelerated approval for its blood cancer drug.

Thermo Fisher Scientific - The company gained along with others in the health care sector, including Gilead Sciences, Cerner, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and Cardinal Health.

Walgreen - The drugstore chain and competitor Rite Aid advanced on a jump in June same-store sales, boosted by prescription sales.
