May JOLTS report little changed from April

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey for May was little changed from April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Tuesday.

Job openings increased to 4.6 million from 4.5 million in April, the bureau said. The 4.7 million hires in May and 4.5 million total separations, including quits, layoffs and discharges, were both little changed from April.

The separations, or turnover, rate was 3.2 percent, unchanged from April. May's hires rate was also unchanged from the prior month at 3.4 percent.

Job openings increased in nondurable manufacturing, health care and social assistance but dropped in in retail and entertainment, the bureau said.
