For those bored by the onslaught of sports events and barbecues that mark the start of the summer, some of the largest sneaker makers may have a cure. And it can be found at the local retail outlet.

This weekend could easily be dubbed "Sneakerpalooza," as Nike, Adidas and Puma are unleashing a wave of classic sneakers on the market. Among the most eagerly awaited offerings were two lines of Nike's Air Jordan brand, the Pinnacle—expected to retail at $400—and High OG Varsity Red. Air Jordan, inspired by basketball great Michael Jordan, celebrates its 30 year anniversary in 2015.

However, the company issued a statement on Friday canceling the online launch of both imprints, saying that fake Internet sellers "have been compromising the experience around specific products. We're working hard to make sure real consumers are the ones getting access."

Sneakerheads, however, can still take heart in the raft of other shoes from a bygone era that will be available. These include Puma's "Great Gatsby" inspired Baskets, and an Adidas brand created in collaboration with music impresario Pharell Williams. Not to be outdone, skater stalwart Vans pushed out an iteration of its "Old Skool" line, which went on sale Thursday.

At least one person won't be forced to battle the crowds—or even wait—for his own special issue sneakers. The New York Times reports that President Barack Obama, on a trip to Nike's Beaverton, Oregon headquarters earlier this month, received a two-pair pack that won't be officially released until June. The so-called MTM sneakers contain one Air Jordan 1 and an XX9, the latest of the brand.
