    WEST CHESTER, Ohio-- AK Steel Holding Corp. said Tuesday that its third-quarter loss widened to $60.9 million, as steel prices dropped. The results fell significantly short of Wall Street predictions and AK Steel shares tumbled in morning trading. AK Steel said that tough economic conditions around the world continue to hurt steel shipping volumes and prices.

    Other global companies, including Caterpillar on Monday, cited slower-than-expected growth in the U.S., China, and noted the broadening recession in Europe. South Korean steel maker Posco said that it expected growth in steel demand to range between 2 percent and 3 percent by 2013 because of slower demand globally in both developed and emerging countries.
