Airlines are using social media to provide fliers with the opportunity to select their seatmate, the New York Times reports.

Ryanair raised its profit forecast on Monday, saying higher ticket prices were more than making up for expensive fuel and reduced capacity, underlining the resilience of its low-cost sector as legacy carriers struggle.

European planemaker Airbus posted record orders of 1,608 aircraft in 2011, or a net total of 1,419 after cancellations, and predicted rival Boeing would catch up with strong sales in 2012.

A spokeswoman at Air France KLM denied plans to cut jobs as reported in media, following a report in the French newspaper La Tribune that the airline would lead a recruitment freeze along with job cuts.
