Shares of oil and gas-related companies fell Thursday after the U.S. government said natural gas in storage rose last week beyond analysts' expectations.
Energy companies and governments prepared on Thursday for a possible major hit on the heart of U.S. offshore oil and natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico from Tropical Storm Gustav.
It was an ugly first half for the stock market and now that the goal posts have been moved for the economic recovery, expect a rough game in the second half.

Natural gas in storage in the U.S. rose roughly in line with expectations last week but is 0.1 percent below the five-year average for this time of year, a government report said Thursday.
