(Reuters) - Blockbuster Inc <BBI.N>, which abandoned its offer to buy Circuit City Stores Inc <CC.N> this week, may try to acquire the electronics retailer later, the New York Post said Thursday citing insiders.

Blockbuster Inc. said Tuesday it is withdrawing its proposal to buy Circuit City Stores Inc., the big-box electronics retailer whose sales have tumbled this year.

Electronics retailer Best Buy Co. and The Carphone Warehouse Group PLC, Europe's largest cell-phone retailer, said Monday Best Buy's investment in The Carphone Warehouse is now complete.

Filling the gas tank is a higher priority than buying a flat-panel television, which is bad news for electronics retailers.

Circuit City Stores Inc. holds its annual meeting for shareholders on Tuesday, where possible takeover talk of the consumer electronics retailer is likely on the agenda.
