DuPont's CEO Ellen Kullman said Thursday the chemical company is well positioned to outperform the market and global competitors as the economy makes a recovery.

(Reuters) - Delphi, the auto-parts maker that emerged from a four-year bankruptcy in October, is forming a new board of directors and will name retired Dupont <DD.N> Chief Executive John Krol as its chairman, the Wall Street Journal said.

A leaner DuPont chemical company is pushing hard into China and other developing countries and said Tuesday it is in position to outperform markets that have been rattled by the recession.

Chemical maker DuPont on Friday said its board of directors named CEO Ellen Kullman to the position of chair, effective Dec. 31.

Diversified U.S. manufacturer Honeywell International posted a 15 percent profit drop that was far less severe than analysts had forecast, sending its shares higher in light premarket trading.

Stocks retreated Tuesday after several earnings reports beat expectations but economic numbers missed their targets.  The Dow shed more than 50 points, or 0.5 percent, but still held above 10,000. The S&P and Nasdaq each lost about 0.6 percent.

DuPont posted an 11 percent jump in third-quarter profit Tuesday, beating Wall Street estimates, but the chemical maker narrowed its earnings outlook for the year.

Futures were poised for a modestly higher open on the strength of more earnings surprises from some of Wall Street's leading companies.
