ITT Corp. was awarded a $26.9 million Navy contract boost to supply 353 electronic jammers designed to prevent the detonation of improvised explosive devices, the Defense Department said late Friday.

Defense contractor ITT Corp. said Monday it has been awarded a $57 million contract to produce protection systems to be installed on Special Operations Army helicopters.

Last year was among the worst for airline delays and 2008 did not start any better, according to government data released Tuesday.

In sectors of the industrial economy, especially those directly affected by growing global demand, orders cannot be processed fast enough, hiring is rampant, products and services are being cranked out in record amounts and stocks are responding.

The government already may have underestimated by billions of dollars the cost to transition to a satellite-based air traffic control system, according to an independent industry analysis.

Domestic airline delays in 2007 were the second worst on record, the Transportation Department said Tuesday.

ITT reported higher third-quarter profit on Friday, helped by strong sales of its defense and water treatment gear and a one-time gain from selling a unit.
