"Squawk Box" Co-Anchor


Joe Kernen is co-anchor of "Squawk Box," (M-F, 6 -9 a.m. ET) CNBC's signature morning program. "Squawk Box" is a fast paced, irreverent look at the world of Wall Street, and the longest running program on the network. Kernen is based in CNBC’s global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

Prior to his anchoring duties, Kernen was CNBC’s On-Air Stock Editor and was featured throughout the Business Day on CNBC.

Kernen came to CNBC in the 1991 merger with Financial News Network, having joined FNN after a ten-year career as a stockbroker. After training at Merrill Lynch, he rose to the level of Vice-President at both EF Hutton and Smith Barney. Focusing on small-to-medium-sized corporations, Kernen managed corporate cash accounts and qualified retirement plans in addition to key employees’ personal assets.

Kernen holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Master’s Degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his graduate studies he worked at the MIT Center for Cancer Research, one of the world’s premier institutions. His work focused on mouse erythroleukemia cells, and resulted in a series of publications in well known scientific journals including CELL, Developmental Biology, and Cold Spring Harbor Symposia on Quantitative Biology.
