MARTIN SOONG
News Anchor, CNBC Asia Pacific


Martin Soong is co-anchor of CNBC Asia's "Squawk Box", (M-F, 7-10am HK/SG), the network's flagship morning program. CNBC Asia's "Squawk Box" is fast-paced, with its signature free-flowing debate. The show sets the news agenda in the region every Asian trading day.

Part of the CNBC Asia team since 1993, Soong is one of the founding anchors of the network, and has played a key role in helping shape its identity and development.

An 18-year broadcast veteran, Soong has dominated business television in Asia for more than a decade. He covered the Asian financial crisis, and has also reported widely, from APEC and ASEAN summits, to post-conflict zones like East Timor.

Soong has conducted countless interviews with top business leaders, including Bill Gates, Jeff Immelt and Carlos Ghosn, as well as political leaders like Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang, Korean President Kim Dae Jung, Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, Philippines president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and East Timor Foreign Minister Jose Ramos Horta.

Soong speaks regularly at major events including the World Economic Forum.

He has won numerous awards. In 1996, 1998, 2007, and 2008 the industry voted him Best News Anchor at the Asian Television Awards - the only 4-time winner in its history.

Soong has a history degree from Whitman College in Washington.
