Tesco Buys 8 Makro Stores in Malaysia

Tesco PLC, Britain's largest supermarket chain, said Wednesday it bought the Makro cash and carry business in Malaysia for an undisclosed sum.

Tesco, which is pushing expansion outside Britain, said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange that the eight Makro stores would nearly double the company's floor space in Malaysia.

Tesco, which reported Tuesday that revenue from its international business grew 17.9% in the third quarter, has announced plans to open 300 more stores outside Britain.
