McDonald's January Same-Store Sales Rise 4.9%

McDonald's reported a 4.9% rise in January sales at its hamburger
restaurants open at least 13 months on Thursday, helped by strong gains in Europe and its popular breakfast business in the U.S.

Three Wall Street analysts were expecting increases ranging from 3.1% to 5.5%, according to research notes.

Same-store sales rose 3.6% at McDonald's restaurants in the United States, 6.8% in Europe, and 4.3% in the company's Asia, Middle East and Africa business.
