Update: Contest Stock Movers And Shakers

Here's our look at contest stocks from Thursday's close to Friday's close. Old stand by Freemont General brought owners/sellers some new gains. The most active and widely held stocks remained pretty much the same as they have been. One of the best performers Cott, was up on consolidation news involving Cadbury. Here's the breakdown:

Best performing trades by % gain from Thursday's close to Friday's close: Cott Corp : If you bought on Thursday at $12.94 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $16.10, the contestant gained 24.42% on the trade. Private-label soft drink maker was up on Cadbury Schweppes speculation that it would split its confectionery and its beverage business and that Cott might be interested in consolidation.
SLM Corp : If you bought on Thursday at $40.75 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $46.76, the contestant gained 14.75% on the trade. (On acquisition talks by Blackstone Group, JC Flowers and JP Morgan.)
Medis Technologies : If you bought on Thursday at $18.29 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $20.32, the contestant gained 20.04% on the trade. (News that the electrochemical fuels cell maker sold products to Microsoft.)
Fremont General : If you bought on Thursday at $6.50 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $7.05, the contestant gained 8.46% on the trade.
Merck : If you bought on Thursday at $46.36 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $50.21, the contestant gained 8.30% on the trade.

Worst performing trades By % loss from Thursday's close to Friday's close:
Varian Medical : If you bought on Thursday at $48.94 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $45.34, the contestant lost 7.27% on the trade. (On guidance that its Q2 revenue was slightly weaker than expected due to slowness in its oncology systems business.)
Irwin Financial : If you bought on Thursday at $17.87 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $16.94, the contestant lost 5.20% on the trade. (Warned that it expects to report a Q1 loss due to conditions in the secondary markets for consumer mortgages.)
