Contest Stocks See More Earnings Fallout

At the risk of repeating myself, which I am, it's earnings once again that's dominating the results of the contest stocks. It certainly makes sense, seeing as this is earnings season. And those playing the "earnings game" are seeing the benefits, (current contest leader Greyson Masters) if they picked right (VDSI). Of course, earnings can be a "downer" as owners of SMMX and ISLN found out. Here ya go.

Best performing trades by % gain from Wednesday's close to Thursday's close:
Align Technology: If you bought on Wednesday at $17.69 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $23.59, the contestant gained 33.40% on the trade --based on solid earnings that swung to a profit.
Vasco Data: If you bought on Wednesday at $17.66 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $22.42, the contestant gained 26.95% on the trade--based on solid earnings that beat expectations and reiterated 2007 guidance.
Covansys: If you bought on Wednesday at $26.80 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $33.29, the contestant gained 24.22% on the trade. Up on takeover news that Computer Sciences would acquire it for $1.3B or $34 per share.
F5 Networks: If you bought on Wednesday at $66.07 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $79.93, the contestant gained 20.98% on the trade--up on strong earnings.
Skyworks Solutions : If you bought on Wednesday at $6.16 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $7.45, the contestant gained 20.94% on the trade. Up on strong earnings.

Worst performing trades by % loss from Wednesday's close to Thursday's close: Symyx: If you bought on Wednesday at $17.80 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $12, the contestant lost 32.58% on the trade. The R&D company reported weak earnings, lowered its 2007 revenue outlook, and named a new CEO.
Isilon Systems: If you bought on Wednesday at $18.11 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $12.86, the contestant lost 28.99% on the trade. The company reported weak first-quarter earnings missing expectations, and lowered guidance for the second-quarter.
Brush Engineered Materials: If you bought on Wednesday at $61.74 and held/sold on Thursday with a close of $50.95, the contestant lost 17.48% on the trade. The metalwork company fell when it warned that second-quarter profit would be below expectations.
