Contest Stocks: Earnings And More Earnings

It's official--we are a broken record--as we talk once again about earnings when it comes to contest stocks. Earnings affected the best performers as well as the worst, showing how dominate those numbers can be when it comes to stock performance. And the hope of good earnings today put a new name on the most active list. (see below). Here ya go:

Best performing trades by % gain from Thursday's close to Friday's close:
Varian Semi: If you bought on Thursday at $57 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $69.99, the contestant gained 22.79% on the trade. Solid earnings doubling Q2 net income and increasing revenue by 42%.
Synchronoss Tech: If you bought on Thursday at $18.66 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $22.50, the contestant gained 20.58% on the trade. Solid earnings and revenue growth.
Spirent Comm: If you bought on Thursday at $5.20 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $6.09, the contestant gained 17.12% on the trade--on news that the British company which tests networks andother comm services plans to cut costs to boost profit.
DeVry: If you bought on Thursday at $29.81 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $34.52, the contestant gained 15.80% on the trade. Strong third-quarter earnings.
Baidu.com: If you bought on Thursday at $109.37 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $124.57, the contestant gained 13.90% on the trade. The Chinese Internet-search leader posted strong Q1 earnings.

Worst performing trades by % loss from Thursday's close to Friday's close:
Omnicare : If you bought on Thursday at $41.32 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $34.90, the contestant lost 15.54% on the trade. Weak earnings with at 19% drop in profit.
MEMC Electronic Materials : If you bought on Thursday at $67.15 and held/sold on Friday with a close of $57.54, the contestant lost 14.31% on the trade.The company issued Q2 revenue guidance that reflected lagging demand from semiconductor makers.
