Question #1: Kim from New York wants to know if Jeff Macke is expecting any surprises in the retail sales figures being released on Thursday?

Jeff Macke says good numbers would be a surprise. He tells Kim to avoid the whole space right now. Nordstrom (JWN) is the only retail name he’s holding, and that’s as an investment.

Question #2: Carolina from Ohio wants to know if the box office performance of Spider-Man 3 is “baked” or priced into shares of Marvel Entertainment (MVL).

Answers to stock questions about retailers, how to trade the summer movie season and a question on the telecomm sector

Guy Adami says it is. However, MVL smoked their numbers reporting revenues of $150 million when The Street was expecting $100 million. Guy likes this stock although he notes it’s currently near its 52-week high.

Question #3: Nicole from New York wonders why Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) is lagging when spending in the telecom sector appears robust?

Tim Strazzini says the network and telecom space was crushed by the sell-off in 2000 when the internet bubble burst. Some companies, he explains, still have a ton of debt and their margins remain tight. Instead of ALU, Tim recommends Nicole look at Nortel (NT) below $25.
