EU Probes into French Electricity Tariffs for Big Companies
The European Union on Wednesday opened an investigation into whether French companies get an unfair edge on the EU market from state-financed, low electricity tariffs.
"The state financing of certain companies' electricity costs could distort competition between European industries," said EU Antitrust Commissioner Neelie Kroes.
Kroes' office will consider whether the set prices for those companies constitute state aid. The regulated electricity prices from distributors designated by thee state are lower than the prices on the open market.
