German May Retail Sales Down 1.8%

German retail sales declined 1.8% in real terms in May compared with April and fell 3.7% from May last year, according to preliminary figures from the Federal Statistics Office.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial News had forecast a 0.7% drop in retail sales month-on-month and a 1.8% rise year-on-year.
