Here's the funny thing about the business of Hollywood (okay, ONE funny thing, there are a million others): you can never predict what characters will stand the test of time.
In an effort to nudge more Americans to plan for disasters, the McCormick Tribune Foundation surveyed people about which fictional character they'd like help from during an emergency. Getting the most votes was "MacGyver," a character who hasn't been on TV in 20 years! Who knew Marge Simpson's sisters spoke for so many of us in their love for the resourceful action hero played by Richard Dean Anderson?
Here's how the McCormick Tribune poll broke down (I threw in their studios because this is allegedly a business blog):
WHO DO YOU WANT BY YOUR SIDE DURING DISASTER?
MacGyver (Paramount/ABC) 27%
Indiana Jones (Paramount) 16%
John McClane of "Die Hard" (Fox) 14%
Jason Bourne (Universal) 8%
James Bond (MGM) 8%
Lara Croft (Paramount) 7%
Jack Bauer of "24" (Fox) 7%
JACK BAUER GETS ONLY 7% OF THE VOTE? Outrage! But, well, everyone around him is always dying, so maybe voters have a point...
