She's dressed former First Ladies Nancy Reagan and Jackie Kennedy and is a favorite of starlet Renee Zellweger, but designer Carolina Herrera says she would like to do a mass-market line, much like the one her friend Vera Wang recently created for Kohl's .
While the sticker price of Herrera's designs are often as pricey as the classic, elegant, couture world that they reference, Herrera is open to creating a guest designer line now that the stigma of doing so has, in her view, "disappeared."
I spoke with Carolina Herrera at her Manhattan studio on Monday. Surrounded by books on Poiret, Dior and design, Herrera said that she's looking to expand her CH line of accessories via more stores.
These days there seems to be a need for designers to expand their handbag and shoe collections. They're such high-margin items that they virtually fund the rest of the costly, couture-type business they may have going.
Anyhow, my profile of Carolina Herrera will be airing on "High Net Worth" this weekend at 8p ET. Check out her latest spring collection and a get a sneak peek inside her studio.
