ConAgra Recalls Frozen Pot Pies on Salmonella Concerns

ConAgra Foods said on Thursday that it was voluntarily recalling all varieties of Banquet brand frozen pot pies and all varieties of store brand frozen pot pies following concerns that its poultry pot pie products may be linked to an outbreak of salmonella.

The store brand frozen pot pies were sold under the names of Albertson's, Hill Country Fare, Food Lion, Great Value, Kirkwood, Kroger, Meijer and Western Family.

The store-brand pot pies were sold at retailers including Wal-Mart , Kroger, Aldi, Albertson's, and HEB.

On Tuesday, ConAgra advised consumers not to eat its Banquet Turkey and Chicken Pot Pies, while it and the US Department of Agriculture conducted an investigation after consumers in several states were diagnosed with salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacteria that may enter the digestive tract in contaminated food and cause abdominal pains and violent diarrhea.

ConAgra, which has said it believes the issue was caused by undercooking, said it was recalling all types of pot pies to "ensure the utmost clarity for consumers."

Before returning the products to market, ConAgra said it plans to clarify on-package cooking directions.
