Should Ann Coulter Be On TV?
![]() |
Ann Coulter has once again sparked controversy and generated headlines with her recent comments on CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch about Jews and Christians.
It's not the first time she's said something that others find offensive, yet she continues to appear widely. In fact, she's scheduled to be Larry Kudlow's guest tonight (Friday, October 12) on CNBC at 7p ET.

| It would be easy to say that The Media shouldn't play Ann Coulter's game. She's a performer who uses controversial, outrageous statements to stir up the simpleminded, enrage everyone else, and above all, sell her books and herself. The Media puts her on TV, she says something, people get upset, and The Media gets to cover the angry backlash. She gets rich while The Media gets viewers, listeners, readers and clicks. Everyone wins in a sordid, cyclical, little game. It would be easy to say The Media should be the grown-up and act on principle rather than profits by collectively deciding not to be her sales agent. The only problem is that there is no Media Central Command .. and there shouldn't be. The Media isn't controlled by the government, or intellectuals, or conservatives or liberals or any other cabal. In our time-tested free-market society, it's controlled by the collective drive to generate profits. To do that, The Media gives its customers what they want to buy or it doesn't stay in business for very long. In this case, the Media is selling the Controversial Ann Coulter. As long as everyone out there is buying, The Media will keep dishing it out. The Heat looks forward to the day demand dries up for this particular product. Until then, we'll all keep playing. |

Should the Media put civility ahead of profits and keep Ann Coulter off TV?

"Should Coulter be taken off television? Absolutely, in fact, she should be taken off the book sellers shelves as well. The celebration of the rash, ridiculous and the slime has to end and now is as good a time as ever to start. While we are a society of rights and law and we promote freedom of speech, we have gotten very far away from what the Founding Fathers had in mind and were willing to die for. Open, meaningful and thoughtful speech should be heard as broadly as it can be broadcast but, ignorant, abusive and ridiculous speech should only be allowed the platform of where that particular individual happens to be standing and should only be broadcast as far as that persons' voice of ignorance, abuse and ridiculousness can be heard without a microphone. We will all be better for it." - Sam T., Florida
(In response to The Heat's opinion): "Wow, way to take a stand on an issue of ignorance and intolerance. How about instead of blaming your participation in the perpetuation of Coulter's harmful and useless comments on the greater 'Media' machine of which you are a part, you actually man-up and take a stand against the degenerate filth that the likes of Coulter and Britney Spears represent. Your stance of 'everyone else is doing, so we do too' is as juvenile as can be. So go ahead, forego responsibility, forego decency, forego efforts to improve the common intellectual denominator of American television content. You apparently are just a humble follower in this 'sordid game.' You could have taken a stand and said, 'It was not our intention to give Ann Coulter a stage to make the types of remarks that she made and we apologize for doing so. CNBC has decided not to invite Coulter to future broadcasts.' But perhaps that would infer too much accountability on your part. If the marketing department of a network such as CNBC cannot think of a more decent way to keep ratings up then you should just admit your amateurish journalism standards on air and join the ranks of Fox News." - Pete A., Seattle
"I read the entire transcript and saw snippets on TV this morning. I am a Catholic and completely agree with Ann. It's not a hate thing. Anti-Semites hate Jews. Christians don’t hate. If you understand where Christianity came from this would all be no big deal. I have many Jewish friends and we do talk about this on occasion. I am certainly not a bible thumper, but the main difference between Christians and Jews is that we believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior. The Jews are still waiting for the arrival of Christ." - Steve W.
"Should be on television and should not be censored unless we are willing to censor most commentators and editorialists. I'd like to censor, or completely ban from public access, Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, most of Hollywood......and the list goes on. Yet, you guys (the media) just continue to showcase their ignorance, prejudices and inflated sense of self worth. Just by asking the question of Ann, you tip your own political bias." - Mike in Lubbock
"Hype and controversy appeal innately, though despicably, to our base nature. That the media now appeals to this 'lesser' side of human nature is indisputable. That it will continue doing so is as certain as ratings are important." - Kyle
"She is boring - just another variation on her politics of hate." - Ted L.
"I find it interesting that men like Danny and Bill Maher welcome a scum bag like her on their show and then are amazed at what comes out of her mouth. Women in the media like Oprah and Ellen don't have her as a guest. Is it because of her looks and her stupid attempt to charm that men find her provocative? Yuk........stop indulging her and she will dry up and go away." - Peggy G., Colorado
