Mad Mail: Buy, Sell or Hold Biogen?

Tuesday, 16 Oct 2007 | 10:31 AM ET

Dear Jim: Congrats to your Eagles, Jim (even though they beat my J-E-T-S). I bought some Biogen Idec not too long ago, thanks to you!!! Do I hold out for the buyout, or sell? I believe it can go for quite a bit more than its current trading price. What do you think, Chief? --Joe

Cramer says: “I think that [the Biogen deal] will go out close to $100.” Usually, Cramer doesn’t recommend stocks after they’ve gotten takeover bids, but Biogen is worth a lot, he says, and might be worth hanging onto “a little longer.”

Dear Jim: Doing my research on Hologic , I noticed that over 30% of the float is short. Trading at less than 1.4 times growth that seems very high based purely on valuation. I've been unable to come up with any logical reason why it would be so heavily shorted. Sure, it’s up 35% over the last year but that's a pittance compared to your latest Sell Block addition, Chipotle , that’s up 125% over the same period. CMG’s short interest is lower at 25%! What gives? --Mark

Dear Jim: BA-BA-booyaaa! I have been watching PetroChina off and on for about two years now. I am a huge fan of the energy sector, and I think that China still has a massive amount of infrastructure to build, and thus invest in. But has this stock already left the station? The P/E is still below 20. --Courtney

Cramer says: It’s “mindboggling” how much PTR has moved and “I’m afraid to recommend it here.” Cramer still likes Baidu.com , Focus Media , and China Mobile as China plays.

Jim's charitable trust owns Hologic.
