According to the Wall Street Journal, Google's (GOOG) wireless ambitions may include running its own mobile network. How should you trade it?
CNBC Silicon Valley Bureau Chief Jim Goldman explains that Google may bid on airwaves at the FCC auction in January without a wireless partner. This is a spectrum that can go anywhere, he explains, including through walls!
Becoming an all in one service provider - and software offerer - to the consumer is a big deal to Google, Goldman explains. It could be worth $4.5 billion and Google says it’s more than able to handle that kind of price tag.
However, if they win the auction they won’t get access to the airwaves until 2009.
Pete Najarian thinks there’s more going on than meets the eye. He suggests Google is trying to spark interest in the auction – and might then partner with whoever wins it.
