A Holiday Tearjerker
As negotiations continue in the writers strike, the Christmas box office could make or break big media. How should you trade?
CNBC media reporter Julia Boorstin joins the panel for this conversation.
Of all the movie companies, Time Warner (TWX) has to most to win or lose this Holiday, says Boorstin. “I Am Legend” and “Golden Compass” could both be huge or big disappointments.
And Viacom (VIA) is coming into the season with “Sweeney Todd”a musical about the Demon Barber of Fleet Street starring Johnny Depp. The studio is somewhat nervous, she adds.
It's Disney (DIS) who will likely own the Holidays. They already won the Thanksgiving week-end with “Enchanted.” And analysts believe this movie will perform well for weeks to come. It epitomizes Bob Iger’s strategy to exploit a brand across all of Disney’s divisions, she adds.
