An interesting connection brought to me by my CNBC colleague Michelle Caruso-Cabrera today.

Straight from today's Wall Street Journal comes the newsthat Goldman Sachs , Michael Dell's MSD, along with Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia's Olayan Group are making a $1.4 billion investment in the Related Cos.

Related CEO Stephen Ross has been in the news over the last couple days because he's the favorite--along with Miami real estate mogul Jorge Perez--to buy the Miami Dolphins should Wayne Huizenga ultimately decide to give it up.

The question is, was Ross more likely to take this money so that he can make a down payment on the team?
