Ashley and Deunta met in the Army when they were both stationed in Texas. They got married young – she was 19 and he was 20 – and decided to open credit cards to buy their first furniture and other household goods.  They immeidately began accumlating debt.

Soon after getting married, Ashley became pregnant and left the military. She took out student loans to help pay for her to go to nursing school.  The Army moved them to New York and then Deunta was shipped off to Iraq. Their debt was climbing.

Pregnant with their second child, Ashley moved to Florida to be closer to her parents while Deunta was stationed abroad. The Army did not pay for the move, so Ashley was forced to borrow even more money to cover moving expenses.

Deunta was then ordered to complete a second tour in Iraq.

Here on the homefront, Ashley moved in with her parents in hopes of saving some money as their debt has now grown to $55,000.  With Deunta scheduled to return home early next year, they're looking to wipe the slate clean.

Start paying more than the minimum on credit cards.
Call the credit companies and correct the discrepancy on your reports.
   Refinance the truck.
Take advantage of military hazard pay now.
Buy life insurance and get wills.

The couple is nearly 100% maxed out on their credit cards and they have to cut expenses. Ashley has taken a giant step in helping to cut their debt by moving in with her parents. Our Money Mentors found that the Ashley and Deunta have some incorrect information on their credit reports; they need to get that fixed immediately to improve their scores. Ashley needs to consider setting up a home-based job while she goes to nursing school something like a web-based job. The couple has to start saving money now because when Deunta returns from his tour in Iraq, his salary will be cut and his take-home pay will be slashed. Our Money Mentors also advised them to buy life insurance and get wills for each other. Ashley's decision to become a nurse is a huge investment in their future as the population ages and there will be a great need for RNs.
