The Dow has opened down over 100 points 65 times. Of those 65 occurances, it has only managed to close in positive territory 5 times. The last time was on October 22, 2007 when the Dow dropped 119 on the open and closed for the day up 44 or 0.3%. The greatest rally to positive territory was in July 2002, when the Dow was down 155.9 on the open but rallied to close up 489 or 6.3% for the day.
