Don’t listen to the retail bears. Some of the best consumer names are trading at such cheap valuations that it would be foolish not to take a look.

Karen Finerman sees some “tremendous buys” in the retail space including DSW [DSW  Loading...      ()   ] and Macy’s [M  Loading...      ()   ]. Both those stocks have been beaten up so badly that it’s hard not to be intrigued by their current values, she said.

Thomas Stemberg, the co-founder of Staples and managing general partner of the Highland Consumer Fund, said he sees major opportunities in retail as well. He singled out Petsmart [PETM  Loading...      ()   ], Staples [SPLS  Loading...      ()   ], Best Buy [BBY  Loading...      ()   ] and Bed Bath & Beyond [BBBY  Loading...      ()   ] as stocks he would consider buying.

When asked by Karen if Office Depot [ODP  Loading...      ()   ] could potentially catch up to Staples and generate similar margins, Stemberg said that even though he’s overall bullish on retail, the laggards are still the laggards. Strong companies will get stronger, he said, but weak companies – like Office Depot – will only get weaker.
