Some sobering new statistics about the burgeoning Alzheimer's Disease epidemic.

An estimated 10 million baby boomers -- or one out of eight -- will get the disease according to a new report from the Alzheimer's Association.

It is now the seventh leading cause of death in the United States and the fifth leading cause among people 65 and older.

The Alzheimer's Association also says that 5.2 million Americans have the disease today and that another 10 million people are providing unpaid care to their loved ones.

Many drug and biotech companies are working on drugs to treat Alzheimer's. Wyeth [WYE  Loading...      ()] and Elan [ELN  Loading...      ()] are partners on a drug that's in late-stage development and should report major test results later this year.
