The American College Of Cardiology kicks off its annual meeting in Chicago on Saturday. Ahead of the world's biggest gathering of cardiologists in Chicago this weekend, there's a flurry of news about stents--the expensive little wire mesh tubes that prop open clogged arteries, explains CNBC Pharmaceuticals Reporter Mike Huckman on his blog Pharma’s Market.

First, the Food and Drug Administration has posted new proposed guidelines for pre-and post-market testing of the controversial devices.

And Abbott (ABT) is waiting for FDA approval of its drug-coated device which Boston Scientific (BSX) will also get to sell under a different brand name.

On Fast Money Huckman explains that at the conference, Merck (MRK) and Schering-Plough (SGP) are expected to present test results on their controversial drug, Vytorin.

Merck will also present data on weight-loss and heart drugs in its pipeline.

Also Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY) Plavix and Eli Lilly's (LLY) experimental blood thinner are in head-to-head study.

How can you trade it?

I think it’s all about Vytorin, says Pete Najarian. If doctors start using this drug Merck and Schering-Plough should profit. Also Merck has a cholesterol drug in its pipeline which could be big. But I like Lilly best, he says, for their diabetes drugs.
