Watch what politicians do, not what they say: John McCain has been trying to reassure his base that he's an economic conservative.

But here's McCain, on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Thursday, embracing the new Senate housing bill include federal money for new housing tax credits and state housing bonds.

"Americans are hurting right now...So our job is to try to fix those problems, to try to get our economy going," McCain said.

"This package...in the Senate, I hope, is an example of the way that perhaps we could work together."

McCain says he's against bailouts. But clearly this is the first step toward a bailout -- and it won't be the last one.

Economic conservatives better get used to it, because the worse our economy gets, the more McCain will move toward the center.
