Opening Glance: Telecom carriers mostly decline

NEW YORK - Shares of telecommunications service providers opened mostly lower Friday as the broader market retreated following a disappointing quarterly report from insurer American International Group. Sprint Nextel inched slightly higher.

Here is a look at how some key telecom stocks performed Friday:

AT&T Inc. fell 30 cents to $38.56.

Sprint Nextel Corp. rose 25 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $9.26.

Verizon Communications Inc. fell 27 cents to $37.98.

Qwest Communications International fell 10 cents, or 2 percent, to $4.79.
