The summer movie season kicked off Friday with “Iron Man.” Does the lack of sequels suggest trouble lies ahead?
Lehman Brothers Media Analyst Anthony DiClemente joins the panel for this conversation. Following is a summary of his main points.
A lack of sequels (7 versus 15 last year) could weigh on total summer results, explains DiClemente. As a result box office grosses could be down as much as 10% year-over-year.
The big winner, however, could be Viacom which will be releasing the much anticipated Indiana Jones sequel. One caveat, the upside could be capped by the fact that Viacom's deal is a distribution deal only.
What’s the bottom line?
The summer box office will probably be down this year. You’ve got to look other places.
I think you can get long Disney and Hasbro , counters Jeff Macke.
