Asia Business Leader of the Year 2008
The Asia Business Leader of the Year is awarded to Mr. Hirokazu Yoshikawa of Dowa Holdings for capitalizing on global trends to inspire growth for his company. Asia Innovator of the Year 2008
The Asia Innovator of the Year Award recognizes Mr. Tan Lay Koon of STATS ChipPAC for his leadership in an organization that has innovation at its very core. Asia Talent Management Award 2008
The Asia Talent Management Award goes to Mr. S. Ramadorai of Tata Consultancy Services for his personal involvement in supporting and nurturing leadership within the company. Mr. Ramadorai believes in developing employees not just for the current positions they fill, but also for future roles that they might play in the company in the future. This allows him a chance to assess employees in various situations and evaluate the potential of each worker, while simultaneously showing the employee a vote of confidence as his or her role expands. In evaluation, Mr. Ramadorai listens to the feedback of clients, staff, and management, allowing for a more well-rounded evaluation. At Tata Consultancy, there are regularly scheduled open houses and one-on-one meetings aimed at scouting for new leaders.
Emerging leaders are evaluated on the basis of their skills, both as an individual and team player, rapport with the employee’s superiors, and rapport with other team members. Mr. Ramadorai also engages with employees in informal settings, seeking to get even more insight into the individual. Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2008
The Corporate Social Responsibility Award acknowledges Mr. Adirek Sripratak of CP Foods for his ability to translate the company’s success into benefits for the community. CP Foods is Thailand’s largest agro-industrial and foods company, with upstreams relating to animal farming and breeding. With this expertise, CP Foods considers it a responsibility of the company to create jobs and occupation for rural peoples in the country. CP Foods has initiated the Rural Lives’ Development Foundation for this purpose, and has consistently provided impoverished rural farmers with farming technology, know-how, and sound management systems to improve the quality of life and general welfare of those farmers and their families.
Mr. Sripratak has also spearheaded efforts to help develop the company’s output in an environmentally friendly way. He has initiated efforts in environmentally friendly shrimp farming, planting of mangrove forests, reforestation projects, and alternative energy projects, including bio-gas,bio-diesel, and co-generation projects. Asia Viewers Choice Award 2008
The Asia Viewers' Choice Award goes to Mr. Simon Lin, Chairman and CEO of Wistron Corporation. The winner of this award is determined by CNBC viewers from across the Asia region. CNBC ran a number of above and below the line marketing activities calling for CNBC viewers to vote for the business leader of their choice and Mr. Lin emerged as the winner with the most number of votes. Mr. Lin grew Winstron to become an organization with more than US$8.5 billion in revenue and 30,000 employees across the globe. He was instrumental in spearheading the split of Winstron from Acer Inc. to focus on the ODM products and services business and in listing the company in the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Mr. Lin was recognized as "Outstanding Manager of the Republic of China" by the Taiwan government in 1989 and was named National Chiao Tung University's Outstanding Alumnus in 1996. [read more] |

Thailand Business Leader of the Year Award 2008
The Thailand Business Leader of the Year Award recognizes Dr. Viroj Mavichak, Managing Director of Thai Oil PLC (Thaioil) for his vision and commitment to sustaining and growing the organization's business.
