"2007 marks 10 years since the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. In the past decade, Asia showed tremendous resilience in recovering and growing from the crisis, as demonstrated by the significant growth and progress in the Asian economy. Japan is the second biggest economy in the world. We are also seeing the emergence of economic powerhouses in China and India. Behind the successful growth of the Asian economy are people - business and corporate leaders, who through vision, courage and resilience, led Corporate Asia to where it is today. The 6th Annual CNBC Asia Business Leaders Awards is our way to celebrate and recognize the tremendous pool of talent of charismatic and dynamic business leaders who have shaped this strong and successful economy, and who will continue to lead Asia's growth in the future."

"It is my utmost pleasure to witness the launch of 2008 ABLA in Seoul co-hosted by Digital Chosun and CNBC Asia.

The global economy is truly struggling today with soaring crude oil prices, waning US dollar, and the worldwide ripple effects of credit crunch from sub-prime mortgage woes in the US. To overcome such period of turbulence and challenges, a leader who can stimulate growth and productivity is crucial at this point of time.

Nowadays, leaders who turnaround challenges to opportunities and champion more efficiently by investing in the workforce are not only seen in the business realm but in the political arena as well.

The significance of 2008 lies in its aims to award the professionals who have overcome the period of volatility and have successfully turned over the unfavorable circumstance to a platform leading to fruitful outcomes.

This age of fluctuation features risks but potentials as well. The capability for the professional who can shift such risk to opportunities is the preparation for the future.

Also, a true leader should be able to step up to the plate beyond the mere business spectrum of the company and get involved with other socially responsible deeds such as environmental preservation and support for the minorities or the less privileged.

I hope the 2008 ABLA in Seoul provides Asian business leaders the golden opportunity to come together, reflect the future of Asian economy, and share their intellectual insights and information.

Lastly, I wholeheartedly congratulate the winners of this highly honorable award. "
