In the past we've had some harsh words about Tim Geithner, the President of the New York Fed and now Barack Obama's choice to head the treasury department. As Jim said on tonight's show, however, we're going to keep an open mind and give Geithner a chance. Jim predicted Geithner would get tapped for Treasury, and though we had hoped for someone else, we're giving Geithner the benefit of the doubt.   Read More

It's time for a minor mea culpa. On last night's show Jim talked about the lack of pin action off of Hewlett-Packard's positive earnings preannouncement. We concluded that good news for Hewlett-Packard couldn't be extrapolated to the rest of tech because we'd heard so much bad news and so many negative forecasts, for example from Intel spacer. Then I, like a doofus, went and wrote a post about pin action, or more specifically the lack thereof.   Read More

We talk about "pin action" a lot on Mad Money, by far our favorite bowling metaphor. In the past, for example, when a big company like Boeing has reported a good quarter or some other piece of good news (not something we've seen much of lately) we look for the pin action off of that -- the companies that make what goes into Boeing's airplanes: Precision Castparts, Honeywell, or United Technologies, to name a few.   Read More

If you caught last night's edition of "Mad Money," you may have been a little puzzled that we talked about Anadarko Petroleum as a green stock, and our list of green stocks from the first green week included companies like Foster-Wheeler and Shaw Group that build oil and petrochemical refineries -- not exactly the most environmentally-friendly endeavors.    Read More
