Nearly 1.7 billion shares and more than $18 billion traded yesterday in CNBC's Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge.  With the contest nearing an end on July 18th, currency traders are scuttling to top the leaderboard. The top currency trader has a $400,000+ gain lead over currency contestant 2 & 3, with a net profit of ~$643,000 since forex trading began. Contest Widely Helds and Actives:

  • Contestant one is ahead on EUR/USD [$$EURUSD  Loading...      ()   ]pairs, as this contestant executed over 500  EUR/USD trades, gaining him nearly $220,000 alone over the past two days. Euro fell slightly during intraday on Thursday against the dollar on a $5 drop in crude oil from prior day, but later poor U.S. earning reports helped EUR/USD close higher, neared the 1.5862 level 5Pm ET.

  • Contestant two made over $215,000 since the start of the contest, and has a floa ting profit of over $43,000 from a long position in EUR/JPY [$$EURJPY  Loading...      ()   ] held since Wednesday morning. Potentially, this trade can increase his portfolio, if the contestant closes his position in EUR/JPY. This pair reached 168.38 late Thursday versus 166.38 late Wednesday.

  • For the third time this week, Ambac Financial [ABK  Loading...      ()   ] leads the Top 5 Most Active stock, with 91 million shares traded.

  • Sirius Satellite Radio [SIRI  Loading...      ()   ] continues to hold the top spot in the Widely Helds with over  2.4 billion held shares, followed by Rite Aid [RAD  Loading...      ()   ]

  • Industrials represent 35% of the top widely helds, followed by Financials at 25%.
