NEW YORK - Shares of some top gold companies were up at the close of trading:
Barrick Gold rose $1.34 or 5.1 percent, to $27.65.
Gold Fields rose $.74 or 10.9 percent, to $7.50.
Goldcorp rose $1.61 or 6.9 percent, to $24.82.
Newmont Mining rose $2.07 or 6.9 percent, to $32.26.
