Today I will be attending and blogging from the 15th Annual Newsmakers in the Biotech Industry conference which is put on by BioCentury Publications and Thomson Reuters. Three dozen biotechs will be making presentations and then doing hour-long q and a's during breakout sessions.
Obviously I can't hit them all, but I will try to post bullet points and highlights here throughout the day from the handful I plan to sit in on. Among them the sessions I hope to make are Medivation (fresh off its big news yesterday about its Pfizer partnership), Orexigen, Arena Pharmaceuticals, Amylin Pharmaceuticals (its first presentation since announcing the additional patient deaths), Celgene and, yes, Dendreon.
Organizers are expecting more than 850 people to show up at the event taking place at a hotel in midtown Manhattan.
According to a press release, the presenting companies have added $18 billion in market cap so far this year as of the middle of last month. In the aggregate, their stocks are up 50 percent versus an 11 percent rise in the Nasdaq Biotech Index. Check back here for my dispatches.
