The NASDAQ and S&P were down for the 5th straight day and were down ~5.5% and ~4.2% respectively over their current losing streaks. The last time the NASDAQ and S&P were down 5 straight days was at the start of the year, when they both lost 7.5% over a five day stretch ending January 22, 2008.
In the Nasdaq's history there have been 79 five-day losing streaks (153 if you count longer streaks). The biggest 5-day loss was 25% or 1125 points in April 2000, as the internet bubble burst.
