Global Jobless Stats: How Does US Compare?
By: CNBC.com
The U.S. unemployment rate blasted past the psychologically important 10-percent mark Friday as nonfarm payrolls fell by 190,000 last month. It's the first time the unemployment rate -- now at 10.2 percent -- was in double digits since June 1983.
But how does the U.S. rate stack up against others around the world? It's certainly not as bad as Spain's 18.3 percent, but is more than double Switzerland's 4 percent. Below is a table of the latest official unemployment rates from some of the world's major economies.
| Country | Unemployment Rate |
| US | 10.2% |
| UK | 7.9% |
| Euro Zone | 9.6% |
| Japan | 5.3% |
| Brazil | 8.1% |
| New Zealand | 6.5% |
| China | 4.3%* |
| Spain | 18.3% |
| Mexico | 6.4% |
| Germany | 7.7% |
| France | 9.8% |
| Switzerland | 4% |
| Netherlands | 3.5% |
